Christmas Gifts with a Smile

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Its Christmas time again and oh no!  Here we go again, we have to trudge out in that lousy weather and fight the crowds at the mall and all the department stores.  Not to mention all the stress that we are about to experience in the lines and the waiting in line.   The first thing you can do is give yourself a gift. I like to start shopping about the first week in November, and the time I go is about 10:00 in the morning on weekdays, especially Monday.  I know, you work, well if you do this twice during the month of November, until 2 or 3 in the afternoon, you will get your shopping done.   Then maybe this year Christmas will be much more enjoyable for you.

We all know the young people who have graduated college and entered into the rush-hurry work world.  It seems that just yesterday they were having fun and going out on Friday and Saturday nights, not a care in the world. Chances are, they are so busy working to pay rent, pay for the car, the insurance, the power bill, that they hardly do anything anymore but work.  They probably used to go to concerts with their friends.  You will have to buy this gift early as time is of the essence here.  Around the holidays or shortly thereafter, there are some good concerts, purchase a pair of tickets to a concert that they would like and tape those to a CD of the same band.   I promise, they will love this gift.

How about the person that skis?  If you buy early, you can buy a season lift ticket to a resort in the area at about 1/3 price, if you get the ticket early.  You can usually buy these at local sports shops or even at some chain grocery stores.   Again, what a great gift, and easy!

For kids, what kid today does not have an MP3 player?  You can just jump on line and buy a gift certificate for say, 100 music downloads, that’s about 9 CDs worth of music for the price of one CD. That way they get the exact music they love and you saved time and effort, while giving a gift that keeps giving every time they use the MP3.   If movies are what the young person wants, how about a year’s subscription to Netflix, they get all the movies they want to watch all year, and you get an easy gift that will be remembered all year.

Gifts for Him- Chose Wisely

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

When it comes to buying and giving of gifts for the man in your life, you can go one of two ways.   You can give the standard gifts that all women seem to give their men, the cologne, the sox, the ties, oh my, I am starting to yawn…excuse me.  You could also go a different direction and choose to give the man in your life something that will open his eyes and tell him that you really do notice and that you really do still think about him.   I am going to give you a few ideas that might get you going in the right direction to begin to be a person that will give gifts of substance.

We all know how hard it is for a guy to get some time to go and do something with his guy friends, there is never enough time and there is always some type of chores to do around the home.  He does not dare to ask to go and do something with the boys.  Well how about you recognize this need and for the gift give him a new fishing pole or tackle box and attached to the gift could be a gift certificate for a weekend at that fishing lodge in the mountains that he loves so much, or how about a gift certificate for a day of deep sea fishing off the coast on a charter boat.  A gift like this says “go be a guy, have some fun, don’t feel bad and enjoy yourself for a little while before having to deal with life again”.  Try this and see the smile on his face.

If the man in your life is a busy executive or salesman, you know he seems to have forgotten how to relax.  You can help him to remember to relax by giving him a gift of a book of certificates for full body massage.  You could give him a years worth of massages, once per month for a year. Give him a nice calendar for his office, and mark one day a month for his massage. He will not only remember his massage but he will remember you also.

Another gift that says “go have a little fun” is go cart racing.  This has become quite popular in many cities across the U. S. and gift certificates for this are easy to obtain.

I hope that this helped you to choose a gift for him, let him buy his own sox from now on.
